CMS Women's Tennis Dominates on Second Day of CMS-PP Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team went 4-0 in doubles against Westmont and a combined 15-1 in singles against Division I CSU Northridge and Division II Azusa Pacific on the second day of the CMS-Pomona Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.

The Athenas earned all eight wins against Azusa Pacific in singles, with Sena Selby taking a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1. Lindsay Eisenman took a 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 3 and Alisha Chulani also earned a first-set tiebreaker for a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 4. Katherine Wurster cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5, Devon Wolfe won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6, and Gabby Lee was victorious 6-2, 6-4 at No. 7. Arushi Malik dropped her first at No. 8, but dominated the rest of the way for a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-0) win. 

The CSU Northridge match was full of drama, with four of the top six singles players going to a third-set tiebreaker, including Ella Brissett winning 17-15 in the third set at No. 3 to finish of a 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 win.  Audrey Yoon was also a 10-3 tiebreaker winner in the third set (6-3, 3-6, 1-0) at No. 1, while Sena Selba came back from a 10-5 win in the tiebreaker to win 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 at No. 2. Chulani picked up her second singles win at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory, and Kate Wurster earned a 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 win at No. 6. Olivia Almy added a one-set win at No. 7, taking her match 8-4. 

CMS dominated the doubles action against Westmont, dropping only four games in four matches. Alisha Chulani and Devon Wolfe won 6-1 at No. 1, Selby and Lee earned a 6-2 win at No. 2, Yoon and Almy won 6-1 at No. 3, and Malik and Wurster were 6-0 winners at No. 4. 

CMS concludes the invitational tomorrow when it plays doubles against co-host Pomona-Pitzer, beginning at 10 a.m.
