CMS Women's Tennis Shuts Out Chapman, Stays Perfect in SCIAC
ORANGE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team went on the road and captured a 9-0 win over Chapman on Saturday, improving to 4-0 in SCIAC and extending its winning streak to 13 matches in a row.
CMS now stands at 18-2 on the season and 4-0 in league play, with a big match looming with fellow unbeaten Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at home.
The Athenas were pushed a little bit in singles, as Crystal Juan and Audrey Yoon each won third-set tiebreakers after dropping their first sets. Juan came back for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 win at No. 1 singles, while Yoon earned a 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 win at No. 3. Ella Brissett also went to a second-set tiebreaker before coming away with a 6-4, 7-6 win.
Sydney Lee earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2, Nikolina Batoshvii won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and Gabby Lee was a 6-2, 6-1 victor at No. 6 to round out the singles sweep. In doubles, Alisha Chulani and Batoshvili picked up an 8-5 win at No. 1, Lee and Lee won 8-5 at No. 2, and Devon Wolfe and Sena Selby won 8-0 at No. 3.
Wolfe finished a perfect weekend with her 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles, after winning a pair of 6-0, 6-0 singles decisions yesterday against San Diego Christian and Whittier, while also winning 6-0 and 8-0 doubles matches as well.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday for a 6 p.m. home match with Pomona-Pitzer, which will determine the regular season champion and top seed for the SCIAC Tournament.
