CMS Women's Tennis Knocks Off Caltech 9-0 in SCIAC Opener

PASADENA, Calif. - Crystal Juan, Sydney Lee and Gabby Lee each won in both singles and doubles as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team took a 9-0 win over Caltech on Friday afternoon in the SCIAC opener for both teams.

The win was the ninth in a row for the Athenas, who improve to 14-2 overall and 1-0 in the SCIAC, while Caltech slips to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference with the loss. 

Juan had an impressive showing at No. 1 singles, winning 6-4, 6-1 over Anna Tifrea, after combining with Alisha Chulani for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles. Ella Brissett and Gabby Lee also had strong singles performances, winning by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores at No. 4 and No. 5. 

Audrey Yoon added a straight-set win at No. 3 singles, taking a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Sydney Lee was pushed to a third set at No. 2, but was able to prevail 10-5 in the tiebreaker to earn the eighth point for the Athenas, while Devon Wolfe was able to win a third-set tiebreaker 10-6 to complete the 9-0 sweep.

Sydney Lee and Gabby Lee also combined on an 8-5 win at No. 1 singles, while Sena Selby and Sarah Bahsoun earned an 8-4 win at No. 2. 

CMS will be back in action tomorrow for another SCIAC match, taking on Cal Lutheran at home at 10 a.m.
