Catherine Allen Participates this Week in NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Catherine Allen is participating in the 2020 NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program at the organization's national convention in Anaheim this week.

The Division III Student Immersion Program is held annually in conjunction with the NCAA Convention. The program was created in 2015 to help "build a pipeline of talented ethnic minority candidates, with an interest in Division III coaching and/or administration, in an effort to ultimately diversify the division."

Allen will be one of 40 student-athletes from around the country who will participate in the sessions, which will include a networking session, a career opportunity panel, DiSC Workshops, a Division III Issues Forum.

A four-year member of the CMS women's tennis program, Allen's stellar career has seen her earn five All-America honors (three in singles, two in doubles), while helping CMS to its first-ever national championship as a sophomore in 2018. She nearly led the Athenas to a repeat a year ago, playing No. 1 singles and doubles, before they finished as runner-up after a 5-4 defeat to Wesleyan (Conn.) in the NCAA Division III Championship match.

Allen did earn another Division III national championship in doubles a year ago, along with junior Caroline Cox, while reaching the semifinals of the Division III singles championship for the second year in a row. She was also an NCAA Division III singles quarterfinalist as a first-year in 2017.

Heading into next week's dual match against UC San Diego, Allen has a combined record in her career of 173-26 (82-12 singles, 91-13 doubles), leaving her 27 away from joining the rare 200-win club. She entered the spring season ranked No. 2 in Division III in singles (behind teammate Justine Leong) by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and No. 1 in doubles.

A legal studies major at Scripps, Allen was named the Scripps Athlete of the Year in 2018-19.
