CMS Women's Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Team Distinction, Six Individuals Honored

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team honors for having a team GPA above a 3.2 for the 2018-19 season, the organization announced today.

In addition, six members of the Athenas earned ITA Scholar-Athlete Award honors, which require at least a 3.5 grade point average during the 2018-19 academic year. Senior Jessie Cruz capped off her CMS career with ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, and was joined on the list by juniors Nicole Tan, Anastasia Bryan-Ajania, and Lauren Yamagami and first-years Crystal Juan and Georgia Tuckerman

On the court, the Athenas had another spectacular season, finishing with a 27-2 record and reaching the NCAA Division III Tournament finals for the second year in a row. CMS captured the program's first-ever national championship in 2018 and came up just short in its bid to repeat with a 5-4 defeat to Wesleyan (Conn.) in the national finals to end as the 2018-19 runner-up.

CMS also capped off the past season by having an intra-squad match for the NCAA Division III doubles championship as both Athena teams in the field advanced to the finals. It was the first time that the same program had both teams in the NCAA Division III doubles finals since Gustavus Adolphus pulled off the feat in 2005.
