Nicole Tan Earns Spot on Google Cloud Academic All-District Team for CMS Women's Tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Nicole Tan, a junior on the defending national champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team, was chosen to the Google Cloud At-Large Academic All-District team in a vote of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today.

By earning a spot on the Google Cloud At-Large Academic All-District team, Tan is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced later this month. The At-Large Team includes student-athletes from multiple different sports, including tennis, lacrosse, golf, swimming and diving, field hockey, ice hockey, and water polo.

Tan has played at No. 1 and No. 2 singles throughout her career, and has helped the Athenas to a 25-1 record and a spot in the NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held next week in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  After studying abroad in the fall, she has returned to tally a 30-6 combined record for CMS, including 11-3 in singles and 19-3 in doubles.

In her career, Tan has already earned All-America honors in singles once and in doubles twice, and was named the ITA Division III Rookie of the Year as a freshman. During that 2017 season, she reached the national championship match in doubles before finishing as runner-up, and also ended the year ranked No. 12 in singles.

A neuroscience major at Claremont McKenna, Tan will be trying to help CMS to its second straight NCAA Division III Championship in Kalamazoo, where the Athenas open on Monday morning at 11 a.m. (EST) against Carnegie Mellon. After the team championship concludes with the finals on Wednesday, Tan will continue on in the NCAA Division III Singles Championship on Friday-Sunday, while she and freshman Sarah Bahsoun are the first alternate in doubles if any team needs to withdraw.
