CMS Women's Tennis Extends Win Streak to 12, Shuts Out Redlands 9-0

REDLANDS, Calif. - The No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team headed on the road after winning 11 straight home matches and pushed its winning streak to 12 with a 9-0 win at Redlands on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Athenas now stand at 19-1 on the season and 5-0 in SCIAC with two regular season matches left. CMS has also not allowed more than one point in any of its last 12 wins, outscoring their last 12 opponents by a combined 102-3.

CMS swept doubles in quick fashion, dropping just a combined five games on three courts. Junior Catherine Allen and sophomore Caroline Cox remained perfect against Division III competition with an 8-2 win at No. 1, freshman Sarah Bahsoun and junior Nicole Tan matched the 8-2 score at No. 2, and junior Madison Shea and freshman Sydney Lee added an 8-1 win at No. 3.

Singles saw Redlands put up a battle on several courts in the first set, but the Athenas were able to prevail on all six, and then they won five of the six second sets by 6-0 scores. Bahsoun had the most dominant effort at No. 4 singles, where she won 6-0, 6-0, while Allen nearly matched her at No. 1, but settled for a 6-1, 6-0 win to remain undefeated in dual matches this season.

Tan and Lee each won by identical 6-4, 6-0 scores at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Senior Jessie Cruz picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5, and junior Anastasia Bryan-Ajania added a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6.

CMS extended its conference winning streak to 29 matches, since falling 5-4 to Pomona-Pitzer in the 2016 season, and has a chance to extend it to 30 when it returns to action next Saturday for a home match with Cal Lutheran.
