Athenas Breeze Past Chapman to Advance in SCIAC Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. - It took the Athenas just an hour and 33 minutes to put away the fourth-seeded Panthers in the Semifinals of the SCIAC Tournament on Friday afternoon. CMS did not drop a game in doubles play, earning three, 8-0 victories. In singles play, Catherine Allen (SC) and Anastasia Bryan-Ajania (SC) earned two quick points with victories of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the match and advance CMS to the SCIAC Tournament Championship tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center against second-seeded Pomona-Pitzer.

Playing the match to decision, Allen finished first with her 6-0, 6-0 win at #1 singles before Bryan-Ajania earned a 6-1, 6-0 at #5 singles to end the contest.

The Athenas were surgical on the afternoon. As mentioned, their doubles' teams cruised to a trio of 8-0 victories. The squad of Lindsay Brown (CMC) and Nicole Tan (CMC) competed as the #1 doubles team earning their second, 8-0 victory in doubles play on the season. At #2 doubles it was Catherine Allen and Caroline Cox (CMC) claiming the 8-0 victory and on the third court, Kyla Scott (HMC) and Juliette Martin (HMC) earned the convincing victory.

The strong play for the Athenas carried over into the six singles matches. CMS needed just two team points to clinch the match and they scored the points quickly with a dominating wins at #1 and #5 singles. Catherine Allen earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at #1 singles and Anastasia Bryan-Ajania clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory on the fifth court.

With the victory, CMS advances to the SCIAC Tournament Championship at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The Athenas will host Pomona-Pitzer after the Sagehens earned a 5-0 victory on Friday afternoon as well. With the Athenas holding the top seed, Saturday's Championship will be played at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
