Ward and Scott make quarters at Ojai
OJAI, Calif. – At the 116th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament over the weekend, the Athenas had two participants (Caroline Ward - CMC and Kyla Scott – HMC).
Ward participated in the Independent College/Division III singles event and made the quarterfinals in the 64-player field. She defeated Lana Rinaldi of Division I Grand Canyon University 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the Round of 32 and Mae Coyiuto of Pomona-Pitzer 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the Round of 16 before losing to top-seeded Erin Walker of Abilene Christian 7-5, 6-1 in the quarters.
In doubles, Ward and Scott won their opening match 6-0, 6-2, but lost 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 in the quarterfinals.
The second-place Athenas (15-4, 6-1 SCIAC) return to dual-match play on April 28 at home against La Verne at 6 p.m.
