Athenas stay hot with a pair of wins over the weekend

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In two matches over the weekend the No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team went 2-0, including a 9-0 win SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran and an 8-1 win over Washington University (Mo.). The Athenas improved to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in conference.

CMS 9, Cal Lutheran (March. 7)
CMS took a 3-0 advantage at doubles with the most impressive win coming from  in No. 1 doubles (Caroline Ward and Katie Kuosman) who defeated their opponent 8-1

Lindsay Brown started CMS off on the right foot in the singles portion of the match as she was the first to win her match at No. 4 singles with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 victory. Kyla Scott sealed the victory for CMS as she only let her opponent, Annette Sousa, win one game in their No. 6 singles match as she won 6-0, 6-1.

CMS 8, Washington University 1 (March 8)

The weekend ended with a win over a top 10 opponent in Washington University.  The No. 2 Doubles pair of Kyla Scott and Sarah Kukino started CMS off on the right foot with an 8-3 win in No. 2 doubles.  The Athenas would go on to sweep the doubles portion of the match.

Kukino stayed hot as she started the singles portion of the match off with a 6-1, 6-4 win in No. 3 singles play.  Brown sealed the win for CMS as she won in No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-3.  The only loss of the match for CMS was Ward at No. 1 singles.

CMS next plays Carnegie Mellon at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
