Win Over Chicago Sends CMS To Final Four Matchup Against Williams

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A strong performance by the top of the lineup in both singles and doubles play gave the No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team a 5-1 win over No.8 University of Chicago on Monday in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships at Stowe Stadium.

CMS is now 31-0 on the season and with the win, has advanced to play five-time defending NCAA champion and third-ranked Williams on Tuesday at 11 a.m. EST. The two teams faced off earlier this season in Claremont, with CMS taking a 5-4 win. This will be the third year in a row that CMS and Williams will have faced off in postseason play, with Williams winning the previous two times at the NCAA Championships.

On Monday, CMS got wins in its first two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Sophomore Sarah Kukino and junior Crystal Lim was the first doubles match to finish as they earned an 8-4 win in No. 2 doubles over Linden Li and Kelsey McGillis. Senior Kristin Lim and freshman Caroline Ward followed with an 8-2 win in No. 1 doubles over Megan Tang and Helen Sdizkhov to get the team's second point. Chicago's lone point in the match came in No. 3 doubles as Sruthi Ramaswami and Maggie Schumann topped junior Chloe Dobbert and freshman Yvonne Likomanova 8-5.

In singles play, Kristin Lim defeated Tang 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles, Ward defeated Li 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles and Kukino defeated McGillis 6-1, 6-1 in No. 4 singles. Ward's win closed out the match for CMS.
