CMS Advances With Second Round Win Over Santa Cruz, Faces Pomona-Pitzer Next

The top-seeded and second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team led throughout as they went on to a 5-1 win over U.C. Santa Cruz in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif. CMS advances to face Pomona-Pitzer in the Regional Championship match on Sunday at noon. The teams have faced off twice this season with CMS winning both matches by a score of 7-2, most recently on May 4 in the finals of the SCIAC Championships.

Santa Cruz got its lone point in doubles play as the No. 2 doubles team of Ariana Mokhtari and Mary Collins defeated Crystal Lim and Sarah Kukino 9-7. In No. 1 doubles, the CMS doubles team of Kristin Lim and Caroline Ward cruised to an 8-1 win while Chloe Dobbert and Yvonne Likomanova got a 9-7 win for CMS in No. 3 singles over Courtney Lymburner and Caitlin Mannix to take the 2-1 lead.

In No. 2 singles, Ward of CMS was the first to finish as she earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Laura Wade. Likomanova and Kukino closed out the win for CMS with wins in No. 6 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
