Matchup Of Top-10 Teams Goes To CMS In 7-2 Win Over Carnegie Mellon

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In a match that a featured a pair of top-10 squads, the No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team topped No. 6 Carnegie Mellon 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. With the win, CMS runs its record to 8-0 on the season. Five of the wins this season have come against opponents in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) top-30.

Carnegie Mellon proved to be the toughest match of the season so far for CMS as three of the six singles matches (No. 4 – No. 6) went three sets and all three matches went to CMS. In two of the singles matches, CMS had to come from behind to pull out the win.

No. 5 singles player in sophomore Sarah Kukino fell behind after the first set to Brooke Tsu but came back to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Junior Chloe Dobbert also earned a comeback win in No. 6 singles with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Abbey Hamstra. The other CMS player to grind out a tough three-set win was freshman Caroline Ward 6-0,6-7(5) 6-2 over Angela Pratt in No. 4 singles. The No. 1 singles match featured a pair of top-10 players as senior Kristin Lim defeated No. 9 Katie Cecil 6-1, 6-0. Lim is the No. 3 singles player in Division III.

In doubles play, CMS tool two of three matches as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams both earned wins. Lim and junior Abby Hayley defeated Pratt and Cecil 8-2 while junior Crystal Lim and Ward won 9-7.

CMS hosts Texas-Dallas on Thursday, March 14 at 5 p.m. in its next match.
