Athenas Roll Through Pomona-Pitzer
The #13 ranked CMS Athenas continued their dominance in the West Region Saturday by rolling through #7 ranked Pomona-Pitzer 7-2. Saturday's win was the first time since 2006 that the Athenas have defeated the Sagehens. The Athenas close out the conference regular season 7-0 and earn the top seed at next week's SCIAC Championships at Cal Tech.
The Athenas started the match with strong doubles performances to go up 2-1 heading into singles. Kristin Lim (So. - Honolulu, HI) remains undefeated on the season with her 6-2, 6-2 win over Jamie Solomon at #1 singles. At #2 singles, Crystal Lim (Fr. - Orange, CA) defeated Kara Wang 7-6 (5) 6-1 to take her record to 12-3 in dual matches this spring. Chloe Dobbert (Fr. - Walnut Creek, CA) came back from a one set deficit to beat Arthi Padmanabhan 2-6, 6-4 10-2 at #3 singles improving her record to 11-2. Jessie Huang (Fr. - Temple City, CA) takes her singles record to 10-2 with her convincing 6-2, 6-0 win over Nicole Holsted at #4 singles. CMS was handed the only singles loss of the match when Jaclyn Smrecek (So. - Irvine, CA) fell to Samantha Chao 6-4, 6-1. Smrecek's record is now 5-1. Senior, Hannah Kornfeld (pictured) ( Larkspur, CA) trailed 1-4 in the first set before putting together a ten game winning streak. She went on to win her match at #6 singles, 6-4, 6-1 taking her record to 12-2 for the year.
The Athenas are 7-0 in SCIAC and 15-1 overall.
