Meilan Uyeno Earns NCAA Qualification for CMS Swim and Dive

CLAREMONT, Calif. - First-year diver Meilan Uyeno of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team earned a qualification to the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, the NCAA announced today.

Uyeno earned her way into nationals by finishing fifth in the three-meter dive at the NCAA Regional Qualifying meet at Trinity (Texas) this past weekend. 

Uyeno earned 389.35 points, just missing out on a top four finish as Megan Norris of Colorado College had 393.95 points. Ren Watt of Emory led all divers with 468.40 points. 

Alexis Romero is also the first alternate for Region 2 after finishing sixth in the one-meter dive, just edging out Jana Woo of Caltech and Sydney Patterson of Redlands. As a team, the Athenas finished third at the regionals, behind WashU and Emory.

Uyeno is the 10th member of the CMS women's swimming and diving team, and the 19th for both the Athenas and Stags, to earn her way to the NCAA Championships this year. Nine swimmers qualified by earning qualifying times, as the Athenas will have teams in all five relays, with six swimmers also earning thier tickets. 

Sun Young ByunMadeleine KanMackenzie MayfieldKaty ShawCorley Smith and Allyson Yao all earned the right to compete in multiple individual events at nationals, as well as on relays. The Athenas will also have Annette ChangAllison Nguyen and Annika Sharma on its relay teams.

The NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships will be held from March 20-23 in Greensboro, N.C.
