Uyeno Places Fifth, Romero Sixth in Three-Meter at NCAA Regional Qualifiers

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Meilan Uyeno finished fifth in the three-meter dive and Alexis Romero was sixth, putting both in line for invitations to the NCAA Division III Championships next week.

A total of eight divers will be selected from Region 2, and Uyeno's performance should qualify once the results are certified by the NCAA this week. Romero is also among the eight top scorers from the regional meet after her sixth-place finish.

Uyeno earned 389.35 points, just missing out on a top four finish as Megan Norris of Colorado College had 393.95 points. Ren Watt of Emory led all divers with 468.40 points.

Romero edged out a pair of SCIAC divers for sixth with 371.35 points, as Jana Woo of Caltech was seventh with 366.85 and Sydney Patterson of Redlands was eighth with 360.75.

It was an important bounce-back performance for both, after Uyeno was eighth and Romero ninth in the one-meter on Friday. Three of the four divers who finished in front of Uyeno and Romero in the three-meter had already been in front of them on Friday, which opens the door for both to be top eight in the region.

CMS already has nine swimmers attending nationals, and Uyeno and Romero would increase the Athena representation to 11.
