Six Swimmers, Five Relays Earn NCAA Invitations for CMS Women's Swim and Dive

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team had six individuals qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships, as well as teams in all five relay events, the NCAA announced on Wednesday evening. 

Sun Young Byun, Madeleine Kan, Mackenzie Mayfield, Katy Shaw, Corley Smith and Allyson Yao all earned the right to compete in multiple individual events at nationals, as well as on relays. The Athenas will also have Annette Chang, Allison Nguyen and Annika Sharma on its relay teams as well. 

Mayfield (200 IM) and Byun (200 fly) have the highest individual seeds, with both ranking No. 14 in the nation heading into nationals, with Byun also 19th in the 100 fly and Mayfield 26th in the 100 breast and 28th in the 100 fly. Shaw is 16th in the 1650 and 18th in the 500, Yao is 17th in the 400 IM and 21st in the 200 IM, Kan in 17th in the 100 fly, and Smith is 21st in both the 500 and the 1650. 

Kan also earned B cuts in the 50 free and the 100 back, Shaw and Smith both made the cut to compete in the 200 free, and Yao is invited to compete in the 200 breast. 

CMS will put a contingent in all five relays, with the 200 medley the highest seed at No. 11. The 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay are both No. 14, the 800 free relay is No. 18 and the 400 free relay is seeded 21st. 

The Athenas will try to add to their traveling contingent this weekend, when three divers head to the NCAA Regional Qualifiers at Trinity (Texas). Alexis Romero, Meilan Uyeno and Anna Zeren will all be battling for the eight qualifying spots to advance to nationals out of Texas.  

The NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships will be held from March 20-23 in Greensboro, N.C.
