Athenas Swim and Dive Cruises to SCIAC Win over Occidental

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team won 15 of the 16 events as it captured a 227-64 win over Occidental on Saturday. 

Multiple individual event winners for CMS included Katy Shaw (200 free, 500 free), Annika Sharma (100 back, 200 back), and Mackenzie Mayfield (50 free, 100 fly).

CMS opened up the meet by winning both diving events, as Meilan Uyeno won the one-meter in 270.30, and Alexis Romero took the three-meter with 274.43 points, followed by Uyeno in second. 

The Athenas then opened up the swimming portion of the schedule by taking the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. Sharma, Mayfield, Sun Young Byun and Annette Chang finished first in 1:48.29, while the Athena team of Florence Lin, Milan Manfredi, Madeleine Kan and Lexi Punishill was second in 1:51.09. 

Revere Schmidt followed by taking the first individual event by touching the wall in 10:49.34 in the 1000 free, followed by teammate Alex Towers in second. Shaw, Kan and Lexi Lee were 1-2-3 in the 200 free with Shaw winning in 1:57.83, and Sharma took a close battle in the 100 back for her first win of the day, edging Katherine Munoz of Occidental 59.86 to 59.98. 

Manfredi was the winner in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.63, with Kelly Prawira second in her first action after studying abroad in the fall semester. Allyson Yao took the 200 fly in 2:12.93, with Allison Nguyen and Debbie Wells contributing to a 1-2-3 finish for CMS. 

Mayfield dominated the 50 free in 24.96, winning by almost a full second to close out the first session of swimming, and after Occidental won the 100 free to start the second session, CMS won the next six events to close it out. Sharma started it by winning the 200 back in 2:13.16, followed by Anna Werts and Lin. Prawira earned the 200 breast in 2:27.89, followed by Manfredi and Schmidt in second and third, Shaw took the 500 free in 5:12.30, followed by Byun and Corley Smith, Mayfield won the 100 fly with Kan in second, and Byun took the 200 IM in 2:12.23, followed by Lin and Schmidt. 

The Athenas capped off the meet by winning the 200 free relay, as Sharma, Mayfield, Kan and Chang finished in 1:38.20 to win by almost a second over Occidental in 1:39.16. 

CMS will be back in action next week for two meets, traveling to the California Baptist Distance Meet on Friday, and then to Cal Lutheran on Saturday for a tri-meet with La Verne.
