Alexis Romero Earns SCIAC Diver of the Week Honor for Athenas
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Alexis Romero of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team captured the SCIAC Diver of the Week honor for events through Sunday, Dec. 3, the conference office announced today.
Romero won both diving boards in the CMS two-day dual meet with Pomona-Pitzer, earning first place in the one-meter dive on Friday and then coming back the next to add another nine points to the CMS total by winning the three-meter.
Romero earned an 11-dive score of 445.90 in the three-meter, which places her fifth all-time in CMS history. Her six-dive score of 269.70, was enough to edge out teammate Meilan Uyeno by eight points, while her win over Uyeno in the one-meter dive was just as close, winning by 9.25 points (267.00 to 257.75).
Uyeno also earned the Diver of the Week honor after the opening meet of the season, when she and Romero split the two boards at UC San Diego in a tri-meet with CSU Bakersfield. Over the last two seasons, five different divers have earned the SCIAC Diver of the Week award for the Athenas, with Izzy Doud, Emma Ng Pack and Makenna Parkinson capturing it last year.
CMS will be back in action on Jan. 6, when it travels to Occidental for a dual meet.
