Mayfield, Divers Earn Wins as CMS Women's Swim and Dive Opens at UCSD Tri-Meet
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Mackenzie Mayfield won the 200 IM, and Meilan Uyeno (one-meter) and Alexis Romero (three-meter) earned diving wins to highlight the performance of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team on Saturday in a tri-meet against Division I opponents UC San Diego and CSU Bakersfield.
UC San Diego defeated the Athenas 192-102, while CSU Bakersfield won its dual with CMS 171-128.
Mayfield won a tight race in the 200-yard IM, finishing in 2:08.40 to win by just .18 over Minh-Nha Kawamura of UC San Diego, with Gabi Icheva in third in 2:08.87.
Uyeno won the one-meter in her first collegiate competition with a score of 215.60, while Romero finished first in the three-meter with a 228.90, edging out Uyeno in second with a 217.40.
Sun Young Byun earned a pair of second-place finishes, clocking a 1:54.84 in the 200-yard freestyle to finish 1.57 seconds behind Sophie Francis of UC San Diego. She then added a runner-up in the 100 fly in 57.16, just .23 behind Lorena Jerebic of CSU Bakersfield.
Mayfield also had a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:06.06. Annette Chang was third in the 50-free with a 24.64, with Ally Rudolph close behind in 24.76 in fourth, while Katy Shaw was third in the 500 free in 5:10.97. The CMS 400-yard freestyle relay of Byun, Shaw, Chang and Annika Sharma also came in third in 3:34.36.
CMS will be back in action in two weeks for a tri-meet with Chapman and Whittier to open SCIAC play at Axelrood Pool.
