CMS Women's Swim and Dive Moves Into Top 10 in Final Poll of Calendar Year

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team had a close dual battle with No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, and moved up one spot to No. 10 in the latest national poll from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America, which was released today.

The Athenas dropped a narrow decision in the two-day dual meet, but came away with some strong times that rank among the best in the country in the early part of the 2021-22 season and moved up from No. 11 in the final poll of 2021 before the next one is released is mid-January.

Among the highlights from the weekend were Ella Blake setting a new school record in the 200 free and setting new Axelrood Pool marks in both the 200 free and the 500 free. Augusta Lewis winning the 100 breast by just one-hundredth of a second, while adding new Axelrood Pool records in both breaststroke and both individual medley events, and Emma Ng Pack setting a new CMS record in the three-meter dive.

Jameson Mitchum also added a new Axelrood record in the 200 back for CMS, which was in a tight battle with Pomona-Pitzer in the dual until the final two events, when the Sagehens were able to hold on for the close win, setting up what is sure to be a close SCIAC Championship competition in February.
