Augusta Lewis Named SCIAC Swimmer of the Week for Second Time

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Freshman Augusta Lewis was named the SCIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week for meets through Sunday, Jan. 20, the league office announced today.

It marks the second time this season that Lewis has earned the league honor. She was also named the SCIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week on Dec. 3, after helping the Athenas to a big home win over Pomona-Pitzer in a battle of the top two teams in the league standings. She set three Axelrood Pool records in that meet, in the 200 IM, the 400 IM and the 200-yard breaststroke.

This time around, Lewis earned the SCIAC accolades after winning two individual events in a road sweep of Redlands on Saturday. She set a new facility record at the Thompson Aquatics Center at Redlands in the 400 IM, finishing in 4:33.54, almost a six-second margin of victory.

In addition to her runaway win in the 400 IM, Lewis also added a close win in the 200-yard breaststroke with junior teammate Claire Bacon-Brenes. The two Athenas came right down to the final reach to the wall, with Lewis taking it by just eight-hundredths of a second (2:23.92 to 2:24.00).

With the win, the Athenas remained perfect this season in SCIAC competition (6-0) with one meet remaining, which will be on Feb. 2 when CMS hosts a tri-meet with Cal Lutheran and La Verne.
