Mia Syme Wins SCIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week Award

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore distance freestyler Mia Syme was named the SCIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.

Syme, who won two SCIAC championships in the distance events a year ago as a freshman for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming and diving team, took two first-place finishes at a competitive tri-meet with No. 7 Washington (Mo.) Univeristy and No. 11 University of Chicago on Saturday. She earned a convincing individual first-place finish in the 1000 free, winning in 10:41.47, a six-second spread over the competition, and then won by just over two seconds (2.01) in the 500 free with a time of 5:15.84.

A year ago, Syme was a top-20 finisher at the NCAA Division III Championships in the 1650, coming in 19th place. She also swam in the 500 free and the 200 free at nationals, coming in 30th place in the 500 with a 5:08.54. 

Syme and the CMS swimming and diving team will be in action in their home pool for the first time this season when they welcome in Chapman on Saturday for their first SCIAC meet at 10 a.m. at Axelrood Pool.
