
Athenas Claim 12 Events, Top Redlands with Ease
CLAREMONT, Calif. - On Saturday, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas defeated the Redlands Bulldogs by a 191-47 final score. The Athenas won 12 of the 13 events in the dual. Julia Hagenbaumer was the only Bulldog to win a women's event, claiming the 200 Breast with a time of 2:31.87.
Jocelyn Crawford (CMC) time in the 50 Free gave her an NCAA B-cut. Crawford's time of 23.40 won her the 50 Free by .86 seconds. Crawford was also part of a pair of relay victories on Saturday. In the 400 Medley Relay, Crawford was joined by Ivy Chen (HMC), Allie Umemoto (SC), and Laura Dickinson (CMC) to win the event by almost seven seconds with a time of 4:04.67.
In the 400 Free Relay, Crawford and Umemoto teamed up with Janet Tran (CMC) and Natalia Orbach-Mandel (HMC) to win the relay with a time of 3:36.89 to claim the title by more than nine seconds.
In addition to being part of relay victories, Tran (200 Free, 1:59.77), Chen (400 IM, 4:44.88), and Umemoto (200 Fly, 2:14.32) each earned victories in individual events.
The Athenas showed off their depth on Saturday with no swimmer or diver winning multiple individual events. Mia Syme (CMC) won the 1,000 Free (10:39.50), while Elizabeth Carrade (CMC) claimed the 500 Free (5:21.79). Emma Stacy (SC) and Anastasia Ibrahim (CMC) each picked up individual victories with Stacy claiming the 100 Free (55:51) and Ibrahim taking the 200 Back (2:14.36).
In diving, Jacque Desmond (SC) won the three-meter competition with a score of 250.13 while Maia Presti (SC) took the one-meter competition with 250.45 points.
The Athenas will be back in action on Dec. 1-2 when they make the short walk across to the street to face Pomona-Pitzer.
