Athenas win 12th straight SCIAC Championship

Commerce, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming & diving team won their 12th straight SCIAC title Sunday night after a strong performance over the four-day 2014 SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships.  The Athenas totaled 1,1152.5 points and captured 10 titles in individual and relay events. Pomona-Pitzer (925) and Redlands (607) finished second and third overall.

Molly Loftus began the final night of competition with a win in the 1650 freestyle with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 17:34.58.  Emily McKinnon and Kelly Ngo went 1-2 in the 200 breaststroke with 'B' cut times of 2:19.82 and 2:20.37 respectively.  CMS also went 1-2 in the 200 butterfly with the duo of Michele Kee and Annika Jessen.  They turned in 'B' cut times of 2:04.20 and 2:06.42.  Carli Lessard finished third in the 3 meter diving competition with a score of 404.55.

The Athenas capped off their championship performance with a win in the 400 free relay.  The team of Ngo, Helen Liu, LillyBelle Deer and Kee won by over a second with a time of 3:29.82, also a 'B' cut.
