CMS Women's Basketball to Take 10-Day European Trip This Summer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team will be taking their first foreign tour to Portugal at the end of May, visiting several cities, including stops in Lisbon, Evora, the Algarve Region of Portugal, and Isla Cristina.

The Athenas will compete in two exhibition games while on the trip, participate in community service activities, and explore the sights of Portugal over the course of a 10-day, 9-night trip. The trip will  include some highlightable stops at the Belem Tour, Old Town Lisbon, Castelo de Sao Jorge, and a quick trip to Spain.

The Athenas will be partnering with Beyond Sports - who's mission is "to connect the world through sports" - and sharing their time with Kris Brackmann, CMC '17, the Spain Director for Beyond Sports.

Brackmann, a three-time First-Team All SCIAC player, who was part of four consecutive SCIAC tournament championship teams, made four consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, and earned two NCAA first round wins, will be the tour host. After her time as an Athena, Brackmann moved to Spain in 2017, and has found a love for to staying "connected to student-athletes and introducing them to new cultures."

"I've been living abroad in Spain since I graduated from CMC and to be honest it's been hard for me to keep up with the team the past couple of years," said Brackmann. "I'm really excited for this opportunity to reconnect with the Athenas. Portugal is a beautiful country and I'm looking forward to accompanying the Athenas on their foreign tour with Beyond Sports, a company I've been fortunate to work at for the past five years. Maybe Coach will even let me jump in for a practice to relive the good old days!"

The CMS staff and program are excited to continue to uphold the Division III mission in athletics, which highlights encouraging our student-athletes "to pursue their passions and find their full potential through a comprehensive educational experience." The Athenas look forward to all that this experience will provide beyond the court, and extend a special thanks to everyone who contributed to the program's efforts in making this trip happen.

Be sure to follow the team's social media accounts for updates throughout the trip.
