CLAREMONT, Calif. - Katie Resendiz had 16 points for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team, but Pomona-Pitzer outscored the Athenas 20-8 in the fourth quarter to take a 67-54 win on Saturday at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Emily Lee had 22 to lead the Sagehens, who improve to 5-18 overall and 2-12 in the SCIAC with the win, while earning a season split with CMS. The Athenas slip to 4-19 overall and 2-13 in the league.
CMS led 34-28 at the half, and built a nine point lead after a Ruva Kiara basket and a Mary Markaryan foul shot. The Sagehens came back with an 11-0 run to pull ahead 39-37 on an Abagail Homan three-pointer.
Pomona-Pitzer took a one-point lead into the fourth at 47-46, and Lee quickly hit two three-pointers to give the Sagehens some separation at 53-46. Lee had five more points to push the lead to 59-48. Resendiz got the lead down to single digits with a lay-up, but that was as close as CMS could come the rest of the way.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday with it travels to La Verne, before closing out the season at home against La Verne on Friday at 1 p.m.
