Caltech Women's Basketball Rides Hot Three-Point Shooting to Win over CMS

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Caltech women's basketball team shot 13-26 from three-point territory and pulled away in the fourth quarter to take a 73-62 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at Roberts Pavilion.

The win improves Caltech to 5-4 on the season and 2-1 in the SCIAC, while CMS sees its two-game winning streak snapped as it falls to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in the conference. 

CMS put four players in double figures in the defeat, led by Mary Markaryan's 18. Katie Resendiz had 13, Ruva Kiara had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Tanya Ghai had 11 points and seven assists. 

Hope Arnett and Kodie Vondra each had four three-pointers for Caltech, with Arnett adding 10 steals defensively (nine in the second half). 

The score was deadlocked at 54 heading into the fourth quarter, and Markaryan tied it back up at 56-56, before Caltech went on a 14-4 run to take a 70-60 lead with 1:46 left.  

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts Occidental for a 7 p.m. contest.
