CMS Women's Basketball Rally Comes Up Short in 67-61 Loss to Redlands

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team fell into an early 14-4 deficit and kept battling back until the very end, ultimately falling just short as the Redlands Bulldogs earned a hard-fought 67-61 win over the Athenas on Wednesday evening at Roberts Pavilion.

With the loss, CMS slips to 10-5 on the year and 6-2 in conference play while Redlands improves to 12-4 and 7-0 in the SCIAC, taking over sole possession of second place after both teams came into the matchup with only one loss in conference play.

Ariana Dalia led the Athenas with 14 points, making 6 of 7 shots in only 17 minutes of play, all in the second half, after being in early foul trouble in the first half. Mary Markaryan added nine points and 10 rebounds, falling just one board shy of recording a double-double for CMS.

Redlands had four players finish in double figures, as Colbi Zorich had 16 points and 11 rebounds while Aliyah Anderson added 15 points for the Bulldogs.

CMS entered the fourth quarter trailing by 10, 53-43, but came almost all the way back to get within two with 1:26 left to play on a Dalia basket. Redlands then made four free throws to close out the scoring, as CMS was unable to get back even.

The Athenas will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Pomona-Pitzer in a Sixth Street rivalry match at 2 p.m.
