Maezelle Millan Repeats as SCIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior guard Maezelle Millan earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the second week in a row, the league office announced today.

Millan helped the Athenas to a 3-0 week with wins over Willamette, Nebraska Wesleyan and Gustavus Adolphus, tallying 11 steals over the three games. She had five thefts in the Willamette win, and four in the win over Gustavus Adolphus, which was a 41-37 defensive struggle between two teams that came into the game with identical 4-0 records.

Millan had two of her steals against Gustavus Adolphus in the fourth quarter, one of which came with 1:03 to go and CMS clinging to a 40-37 lead. She also helped hold her point guard counterpart for the Gusties to one assist and nine turnovers, as CMS forced 29 turnovers to eke out a four-point win on a day in which the Athenas shot only 20.6 percent from the floor.

For the season, Millan has totaled 19 steals through five games, ranking among the top 25 in the nation in Division III in that category. Her 3.8 steals per game currently places her tied for 22nd nationally and first among SCIAC players.

CMS now stands at 5-0 on the young season and will head to the McWilliams Classic at Washington University this weekend, meeting Hendrix on Friday and host WashU on Saturday.
