Jade Johnson Captures Second SCIAC Pitcher of the Week Honor for CMS Softball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Jade Johnson of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team earned the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week honor for games through Sunday, April 21, the conference office announced today.

Johnson picked up wins in all three games of the Whittier series this weekend, to help CMS stay percentage points ahead of Redlands atop the SCIAC standings. She threw 4.2 innings on Friday to get the win in a 3-1 victory over the Poets, when the only run came home on a rundown with runners on first and third. She then had a complete-game four-hit shutout in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader at Whittier.

In the nightcap, Johnson was called out of the bullpen with one out in the first inning and then went the final 6.2 to get her third win in 24 hours, allowing five hits and two runs as the Athenas came back from a 4-0 first-inning deficit for a 9-6 win. Johnson improved her overall record for the season to 9-1 with the three victories.

Johnson earned the award for the second time this season, after previously capturing it after allowing no runs in three appearances at the Tucson Invitational Games, including getting the win with five shutout innings against nationally ranked Central (Iowa).

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it plays a three-game series with Pomona-Pitzer, beginning with a single game at Pomona-Pitzer on Friday and a doubleheader at Athena Field on Saturday. Johnson and fellow seniors Destiny Garcia and Ellie Novogradac will be honored before the game for Senior Day.
