Maya Loper Named SCIAC Pitcher of the Week for CMS Softball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Maya Loper of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team earned the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week honor for games through Sunday, April 23, the conference office announced today.

Loper threw six shutout innings in the final game of the weekend series with Chapman that pushed CMS over the top and into first place. She allowed six hits, struck out six and walked two to remain perfect in her rookie season at 6-0. She gave way to the bullpen in the seventh inning, when the Athenas let one unearned run cross, but held on for the 3-1 win and first place with two weekends left.

Loper becomes the second Athena to earn SCIAC accolades this season, after Emma Suh previously won the Hitter of the Week Award. 

CMS will be back in action this weekend for another big three-game series, taking on second place Redlands, including a road game on Friday and a doubleheader at home on Saturday at 11 a.m.
