
CMS Softball Drops Single Game to Division II Azusa Pacific
CLAREMONT, Calif. - After losing games to rainouts last weekend, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team added a game with Division II Azusa Pacific on Friday and came up on the short end of a 6-0 defeat.
With the loss, CMS slips to 5-2, but was able to tune up again after being idle for two weeks, before Division III Beuna Vista comes to Athena Field on Sunday for a doubleheader. Azusa Pacific improves to 8-5 with the win.
Jade Johnson had a solid pitching performance in defeat, allowing no runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of work. Destiny Garcia was 1-for-2 with a walk, while Rachel Sapirstein and Ari Livi added hits for the Athenas as well.
Mia Alvarez had an RBI double in a two-run first, and Izzy Rivera contributed a three-run double in a four-run third for the Cougars. Foru Azusa Pacific pitchers combined on the shutout.
CMS will get back to Division III play on Sunday against Buena Vista, beginning at 11 a.m.
