Lauren Richards Captures Second SCIAC Pitcher of the Week Honor for Athenas

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Lauren Richards of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team earned the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week honor for games through Sunday, April 10, the league office announced this afternoon.

Richards was 2-0 in the circle as the Athenas swept a three-game series with Whittier to improve to 10-5 in conference play this season. She threw a complete-game three-hitter on Friday in the series opener, allowing no earned runs, in a 2-1 victory, and then came back on Saturday for her second complete-game victory of the weekend, as CMS took a 3-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader. 

It marks the second time this season that Richards has captured the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week award, after she also earned it following a no-hitter against Willamette on March 26. As a team, CMS has won the award four times this year, as Heather Shipley and Jade Johnson each captured it in the season's first two weeks. 

CMS will be back in action this weekend for a key three-game series against Chapman, which comes in as the SCIAC co-leader at 9-3.
