Lauren Richards Captures SCIAC Pitcher of the Week Accolades

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Lauren Richards earned the SCIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for games through Sunday, March 27, the conference office announced this afternoon.

Richards had two starts this weekend and threw two shutouts, including a no-hitter in a five-inning win over Willamette on Friday, and then added a three-hit shutout in a six-inning win over Occidental in the rubber game of a three-game series on Sunday.

Richards also hit 10-19 at the plate over five games, and actually outhit her opponents in both of her starts. She was 1-3 against Willamette when she threw the no-hitter, and 4-4 against Occidental when she threw a three-hitter.

The Athenas have now had three different Pitchers of the Week this season, after Heather Shipley and Jade Johnson each earned one back at the start of the year. CMS has also had two SCIAC Hitter of the Week honors, which were captured by Destiny Garcia and Ananya Koneti. 

CMS will be back in action for a three-game series this weekend with La Verne, facing the Leopards at home on Friday at 3 p.m. and then traveling down Bonita Avenue for a 12 noon doubleheader on Saturday.
