CLAREMONT, Calif. - Lauren Richards pitched a five-inning no hitter in the opener as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team took an a 8-0 win, and the Athenas cruised in the nightcap to take a 6-2 win and complete the doubleheader sweep over Williamete on Friday at Athena Field.
CMS improved to 11-12 on the year with the wins while the Willamette Bearcats fell to 8-16 on the season after it's pair of losses.
Richards was stellar, improving to 4-3 on the season, not allowing a hit while CMS was able to force a mercy rule due to leading 8-0 through five innings of play. Emma Suh was solid behind her at second base, catching two line drives and fielding all seven chances flawlessly.
Ari Livi finished the game with a 3-for-3 performance, while Ananya Koneti was 2-for-2. Aby Thompson (2-for-3) and Emily Nutting (2-for-3) also had multi-hit games.
Nutting opened the scoring in a five-run second inning with a two-run single, scoring Thompson and Destiny Garcia, who each singled to start the inning, and advanced on a bunt single from Koneti. Livi followed with an RBI single and came home on a wild pitch, and Suh capped it off with an RBI groundout.
Livi stole home on the back end of a double steal in the fourth, and Paige Zimmerman had an RBI triple.
In the nightcap, Richards was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and Suh was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Heather Shipley allowed only four hits and no earned runs to get the win.
CMS next prepares for more action tomorrow as they face Occidental in a three-game series, with a road doubleheader on Saturday and a home game on Sunday.
