Garcia, Shipley Earn SCIAC Weekly Honors for CMS Softball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Destiny Garcia earned the SCIAC Softball Hitter of the Week Award following her collegiate debut, and Heather Shipley captured the Pitcher of the Week honor, the league office announced today.

Garcia and Shipley helped CMS give Division II Azusa Pacific a solid battle in its 2022 season opener on Saturday at Athena Field. Garcia had hits in her first three collegiate at-bats, roping a double to lead off the bottom of the first and adding line drive singles in both the second and fifth innings. 

Shipley, meanwhile, came on in relief in the fifth inning and threw 2.1 no-hit innings to help give CMS a chance at a late comeback. She struck out two, and allowed only one batter to reach on a hit-by-pitch, who she left stranded at first base.

CMS will be back in action on Friday when it takes on Vanguard for a 12 noon doubleheader at Athena Field.
