Eight Athenas Earn All-America Scholar-Athlete Award from National Fastpitch Coaches Association

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Eight members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team, half of the team's roster, earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association/Easton All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2018-19 academic year, the organization announced today.

Graduated senior Rachel Perley was honored for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the academic year, as well as five members of the Class of 2022, who were honored after their first collegiate seasons: Jordan Bassett, Ananya Koneti, Lauren Richards, Alexa Schulten and Lexi Singh. Current juniors Kawai Scanlan and Molly Spaniac were also chosen.

The upperclass winners for the Athenas represented a cross-section of the team's varied academic backgrounds. Perley graduated from Harvey Mudd with a degree in engineering, while Spaniac attends Claremont McKenna and Scanlan attends Scripps.

CMS also had tremendous success on the field, finishing with a 31-13 record and earning the SCIAC regular season title. The Athenas hosted the conference tournament and an NCAA Regional after earning an at-large bid to the Division III Championship, the program's second straight appearance.
