Megan Perron Named Second-Team All-American by National Fastpitch Coaches Association

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore designated player Megan Perron earned second-team All-America honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, the organization announced on Wednesday evening at its annual awards banquet.

Perron had a breakthrough season for CMS, leading the team in hitting at .442, while adding 16 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 42 runs batted in. Her on-base percentage was nearly .500 (.480) and she added nine stolen bases without being caught. 

A year ago, Perron had an injury-plagued freshman season, which saw her have only eight at-bats all year, while seeing more of her time in the pitching circle, tallying a 2-1 record. When CMS opened its 2019 season against Whitworth, Perron wasn't in the starting line-up for the first game, but she hit 2-for-4 in the nightcap, and had a pinch hit in the third game against Vanguard, and then never came out of the line-up again. 

As she kept hitting, Perron kept moving up in the batting order, settling in at the No. 3 spot. She also hit leadoff in the NCAA Tournament after an injury to senior Chloe Amarilla, who earned third-team All-America honors from the NFCA last season. Prior to her All-America honor, she was named first-team All-SCIAC and first-team NFCA All-West Region. 

Perron's efforts helped CMS earn its highest-ever national ranking, peaking at No. 5, and helped the Athenas host an NCAA Regional for the first time. CMS captured the regular season SCIAC title with a 24-4 record, tying a program record for most conference wins in a season (matching the 2016 team).  The Athenas finished the year with a 31-13 record overall.
