Gurr is Pitcher of the Year; five Athenas named to All-SCIAC Teams

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – Five members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team were selected to the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team, as announced on Monday afternoon. Junior Anna Gurr (CMC) was honored as the Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season and was joined by three teammates on the First Team and one on the Second Team. In addition to earning a spot on the First Team, sophomore transfer, Ande Troutman (CMC) earned Newcomer of the Year honors.

Gurr repeats as Pitcher of the Year after leading the conference in wins, saves, complete games, ERA and innings pitched. The junior picked up 14 wins and five saves on the year while posting an incredible 0.63 ERA which dropped to 0.43 in conference play. She pitched 130.1 innings of conference play while striking out 91 and only walking 14 batters.

Troutman was named the Newcomer of the Year and to the First Team after leading the conference in batting average at .433, on base percentage at .495 and hits with 39. She was also second in hits with 39 and fourth in doubles with nine on the year. Defensively, the centerfielder played errorless ball in all 28 SCIAC games.

Junior first baseman Briana Halle (CMC) earns her second All-SCIAC nod after being named the First Team's designated player in 2016. This season, she collected 29 hits offensively but made her statement on defense. She made the most putouts in conference at 258, which was 44 more than the next highest.

Sophomore second baseman Reeve Grobecker (CMC) earns her first All-SCIAC award due to her exemplary play on both sides of the ball. She hit .337 with a .360 on base percentage as a slapper. In the field, she made almost as many putouts as she did assists and had 120 chances, second only to Halle at first.

Junior Carly Roleder (CMC) shifted over to third base in the 2017 season and again landed on an All-SCIAC team. This is her third time being named to the Second Team, each year at a different position. Roleder tied with Troutman for the lead of the conference at a .495 on base percentage and co-led the team with 18 RBI.

The Athenas head into the SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the No. 2 seed after posting an 18-10 regular season record. CMS will face No. 3 seed Whittier on Friday, May 5 at 4:30 p.m.
