CMS Men's Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team earned All-Academic honors from the United States Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association, the organization announced today.

The Stags carried a 3.48 team grade point average, easily eclipsing the 3.1 minimum standard to earn All-Academic Team status. CMS also had great success athletically, tying for the NCAA West Region title and earning a trip to the NCAA Division III Championships.

Three members of the Stags also earned All-Academic honors as individuals, all of whom attend Harvey Mudd College. Senior Ben Iten, an engineering major, captured USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in his final season, while freshmen Miles Christensen (engineering) and Alexander Hirsch (mathematics/biology) earned their first appearances on the team.

Iten, Christensen and Hirsch were part of the seven-member squad that competed at the NCAA West Regionals and the NCAA Division III Championships in the fall. Christensen, the highest finisher for CMS at both events, recently continued his strong freshman campaign by winning the 3000 meters at the Howie Ryan Invitational for the Stags track and field team.

The CMS distance runners will be in action again this weekend at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet, before hosting the Rossi Relays at the Burns Track Complex on Saturday, Feb. 23.
