Men's Cross Country Takes Third Place at SCIAC Championships

CHINO, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team finished in third place at the 2018 SCIAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Prado Park.

Freshman Miles Christensen was the top finisher for CMS in a time of 26:48.1, good for 11th place in the 124-runner field. Will Kimball (26:52.1) and Ben Iten (26:53.8) finished back to back in 14th and 15th place, while freshman Kyril Van Schendel (27:01.8) was 20th.

Alexander Hirsch was the fifth and final scorer for the Stags in 22nd place in 27:03.4. CMS then had a wave of runners cross between 24th and 34th place, just outside of the top five. Stevie Steinberg was 24th, followed by five Stags in a span of six finishers: Evan Hassman (29th), Thomas Fleming (30th), Charie Harris (32nd), Brooks MacDonald (33rd) and Wilson Ives (34th). 

Pomona-Pitzer won the team title handily with five of the top seven finishers to come in with 23 points, while Occidental (74) edged out CMS (81) for second. Redlands (99) and Caltech (125) rounded out the top five. Andy Reischling of Pomona-Pitzer won the individual title in 25:52.6, winning by almost 20 seconds over Benjamin White of Whittier. 

CMS will be back in action in two weeks when it travels to Whitman in Walla Walla, Washington for the NCAA West Regionals on Nov. 10.
