Evan Hassman Leads CMS Men's Cross Country at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Evan Hassman was the top finisher for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team as it competed across Sixth Street at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday morning.

Hassman finished 15th overall in the field of 96 runners with a time of 26:40.5 to lead the way for the Stags, who came in fourth overall out of 11 teams. 

Junior Brooks MacDonald was the second CMS runner to cross the line, finishing 24th with a time of 27:04.3, while sophomore Daniel Sealand was third in 27:18.5. Seniors Colin Adams (33rd, 27:48.0) and Matt Psaltakis (35th, 28:02.1) were the fourth and fifth runners to score for CMS in the meet. Freshman Jake Gill wasn't far off the pace with a 28:08.0 to come in 41st. 

Host Pomona-Pitzer won the team event with a score of 49, followed by Westmont in second with 61 and Redlands in third with 93. CMS edged out La Verne for fourth, with Vanguard, Caltech, Cal Lutheran, Whittier, Chapman and Life Pacific rounding out the team leaders. 

CMS will be back in action at the CSU San Marcos Cougar Challenge next Saturday in its final tuneup before the SCIAC Championships on Oct. 27.
