Aidan Nettekoven Earns SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week for Second Time this Season

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior goalkeeper Aidan Nettekoven earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team for games through Sunday, Oct. 15, the conference office announced today.

Nettekoven earned the award for the second time this season after helping CMS maintain its No. 1 ranking in Division III with a pair of close wins. He had eight saves in a 9-8 win over Redlands, which was a battle of No. 1 vs. No. 2 in Division III, including stopping a penalty shot midway through the fourth quarter to prevent Redlands from tying the game.

In a 10-8 win over La Verne on Saturday, Nettekoven started and had nine saves in the first half, allowing only four goals, before coming out of the game in the second half as CMS finished off the win to move to 14-6 overall and 5-0 in the SCIAC.

The award was the second of the season for Nettekoven, and the fifth in his career, after earning it three times a year ago on his way to earning SCIAC Defensive Player of the Year honors.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts Whittier for a 7 p.m. contest.
