Weigle, Nettekoven Earn SCIAC Weekly Awards for CMS Men's Water Polo

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Luke (Bear) Weigle was named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week, and Aidan Nettekoven earned the Defensive Player of the Week as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team earned both weekly honors for games through Sunday, Oct. 16.

Weigle scored a combined nine goals in a 1-1 week for CMS, accounting for half of the team's goals in a 10-6 win over Cal Lutheran with five. He scored on all five of his shots against the Kingsmen as the Stags were able to prevail in a defensive battle. He added four more goals against Chapman, all in the second half as CMS tried to rally from a five-goal deficit, before the Stags came up short 12-11. Weigle now leads the Stags with 46 goals on the year.

Nettekoven had a big performance with 16 saves in a win over Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, as the Stags prevailed 10-6. He had eight more saves in a loss to Chapman on Saturday (12-11) as he finished the week with 24 saves and 18 goals allowed, good for a .571 save percentage. It marks his second Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season, and the third for the Stags, after Eli Schwarz picked it up last week.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Redlands, and then will be back at home a week from Wednesday when it hosts Pomona-Pitzer in a big Sixth Street rivalry game at Axelrood Pool.
