CMS Men's Water Polo Takes 14-8 Road Win Over Occidental

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team held Occidental scoreless in the first quarter and broke the game open with a 5-1 third as it captured a 14-8 road win over the Tigers on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Stags improve to 4-6 on the season and 2-1 in the SCIAC, including a forfeit win over Caltech on Saturday. 

Sam Harrison had a big day offensively with three goals and four assists, having a hand in half of the 14 CMS goals. Kyle Ballack, Ben Weldon, Christian Thornton and CJ Box each added two goals and Gavin Rosser had two assists. 

CMS took a 3-0 lead after the first quarter, with Thornton, Will Clark and Andrew Wraith finding the net for the Stags. Occidental stayed within 7-3 at the half, before CMS broke the game open with a 5-1 third quarter. Thornton and Box started the second half with goals for the Stags, and after the Tigers pulled within 9-4, Weldon scored one and Harrison had back-to-back goals to make it 12-4 going into the final frame. 

Noah Smith had nine saves and picked up two assists in goal for CMS, while Eric Warmoth and Harrison led the defense with two steals apiece. 

CMS returns to action in one week when it takes on Cal Lutheran at Axelrood Pool for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
