Noah Smith Named SCIAC Men's Water Polo Defensive Player of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior goalie Noah Smith was named the SCIAC Men's Water Polo Defensive Player of the Week for matches through Sept. 12, the league office announced today.

Smith earned the honor after helping CMS pick up a win at the Inland Empire Classic over Concordia (Irvine). Smith had 17 saves on the day, to go along with four steals, as the Stags prevailed in a tight 11-8 contest.

After the score was tied 3-3 midway through the first quarter, Smith had a stretch of total dominance, preventing the Eagles from scoring for over 18 minutes during a 5-0 CMS run, making nine of his saves during that stretch.

Over the weekend, Smith finishes with 30 saves as CMS also faced No. 6 Long Beach State, No. 2 USC and No. 13 UC Irvine. He split time in goal for the final two matches against the Trojans and Anteaters.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday at home, when it takes on Caltech at 11 a.m. and Pomona-Pitzer at 7 p.m. in its first SCIAC matches of the 2021 season.
