
12 Stags Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Distinction
CLAREMONT, Calif. - A total of 12 members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team earned All-Academic honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced today.
Hayden Beauchemin, Christian Campbell, Miles Christensen, Jamie Cockburn, Sarath Kakani, Truman Knowles, Joshua Martinez, Henry Pick, Colin Scanlon, Leo Sundstrom, Nick Teresi and Quincey Williams each earned All-Academic distinction, while helping the Stags earn All-Academic Team honors with a 3.529 team grade point average.
To earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average, and place in the top 50 in the country in an individual event, or in the top 35 in a relay.
Seven of the 12 honorees for the Stags competed at the NCAA Division III Championships, including Campbell, who was an All-American in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4x400 relay and earned the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Year award. Cockburn and Teresi were also part of the 4x400 relay that finished second in the nation, with the fourth-fastest time in NCAA Division III history, while Campbell, Teresi, Martinez and Williams were part of the 4x100 relay that qualified for nationals.
Knowles (javelin), Teresi (400 meters) and Pick (5000 meters) earned individual qualifications to the NCAA Division III Championships as well, with Knowles and Pick graduating with All-American distinction in 2022.
Beauchmein earned his way onto the All-Academic team after running a 9:11.24 in the steeplechase at the Occidental Invitational to place in the top 50 nationally. Christensen clocked a 14:18.76 at the Occidental Distance Carnival in the 5000 meters to earn a top-50 ranking, Kakani placed 24th in the shot put after repeating as SCIAC Champion, Scanlon earned a top-50 spot with his PR at the SCIAC Championships in the 400-meter hurdles (14.60), and Sundstrom earned his way in with a PR at SCIACs in the pole vault (15'5.5"), which earned him second place.
Cockburn also had a top-50 ranking individually in the 400 meters (48.02), as did Martinez in the 110-meter hurdles (14.60), which earned him a SCIAC title.
CMS earned its third straight SCIAC title with a dominant performance, earning 230 points for a margin of 65.5 over second-place Pomona-Pitzer.
