Christian Campbell Qualifies for NCAA 100 Meter Finals for Stags Track and Field

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Christian Campbell already knew he was running in two events on Saturday, the final day of the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, and he made it three by qualifying for the finals of the 100-meter dash on Friday afternoon at St. John Fisher.

Campbell qualified for the finals of the 200 meters on Thursday, as well as in the 4x400 relay, when he joined Nick Teresi, Ellis DelVecchio and Jamie Cockburn in clocking the fastest time of any team in prelims (a CMS-record 3:09.26).

On Friday, he needed to finish in the top eight of the 100-meter prelims in order to advance through to Saturday, and he came through with a 10.46, which was good for fifth place. It was the second-fastest time of his career, behind a 10.30 which he ran last week at the Redlands Last Chance Meet to set a new SCIAC record.

Sam Blaskowski of Wisconsin-La Crosse had the fastest prelim time at 10.28, followed by Cheickna Traore of Ramapo with a 10.31. Neither ran in Campbell's heat, when he finished a close third behind Carson Rantanen of Greenville (10.40) and Kevin Arthur of St. John's (10.41).

Teresi competed in the 400 meters for the Stags on Friday and ran a 47.66, but didn't advance through to the finals, although he will be in action in the 4x400 relay in the final event of the meet, when CMS will try to win a national title. In addition to Campbell's two individual events, Henry Pick will also be competing tomorrow in the 5000 meters, after earning All-America honors in the event last year by finishing fourth.
