Christian Campbell Sets SCIAC Records in 100 (10.30) and 200 (20.80) at Redlands Last Chance Meet
REDLANDS, Calif. - Christian Campbell set a new SCIAC record in the 100 meters with a 10.30 and broke his own SCIAC record in the 200 meters with a 20.80 at the Redlands Last Chance Meet on Thursday evening in the final tune-up before the NCAA Division III Championships.
The 10.30 in the 100 meters broke his own CMS record of 10.47, which he set earlier this season at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet in February. The time also passed the league record of 10.37, which was set by Joey Colluci of Redlands at the NCAA Championships in 2015.
The 20.80 in the 200 meters also broke his own CMS and SCIAC record of 20.92, which he set at the second SCIAC Multi-Dual at Occidental on April 1. After his performances, Campbell now ranks No. 2 in the nation in both the 100 and the 200, placing .14 behind Sam Blaskowski of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the 100 and .31 behind Cheickna Traore of Ramapo on the 200.
In other events, Jamie Cockburn came in first place in the 400 meters with a 48.20, Sarath Kakani was first in the shot put at 51'8.5", Ian Osborne was first in the discus at 134'1", Jason Bowman placed first in the hammer at 171'4" and Truman Knowles was first in the javelin at 177'11".
The NCAA Championships will be held next week in Rochester, and official invitations will be extended this weekend, with Campbell likely to attend in four events, including the 4x100 and 4x400 relays that both rank in the top 10 in the nation. Henry Pick (ninth in the 5000), Knowles (tenth in the javelin) and Nick Teresi (13th in the 400) also currently are in good position to qualify.
